Editorial policy
Last reviewed 1 July 2026
We publish guides about UK pay, tax and deductions. People make real decisions from these numbers, so this page explains exactly how our content is produced and checked.
Where our numbers come from
Every tax, National Insurance and student loan figure on this site comes from official HMRC, GOV.UK and Student Loans Company publications, and is held in a single shared calculation engine rather than typed into individual articles. That means an article can never quietly drift out of step with the calculators. The full rate table and source list is published on our methodology page.
How articles are written and reviewed
- Topics are chosen from real search demand and questions readers ask us, not from keyword volume alone.
- Drafts are produced by our editorial team, with AI used as a research and drafting assistant on some explainer content. Nothing is published without a human editor reading it end to end.
- Every monetary figure in a published article is generated from, or checked against, our calculation engine for the current tax year.
- Each article names an author and shows both its publication date and its last updated date.
- We do not invent statistics. Where we cannot source a number, we describe the situation qualitatively instead.
How often content is updated
Rates change at the start of each UK tax year on 6 April and can change at a Budget. When they do, we update the calculation engine first and then refresh every affected article, including the tax year referenced in titles and worked examples. Articles that are no longer accurate are updated or removed rather than left in place.
Independence and how we make money
Our calculators and guides are free to use and do not require an account. We intend to fund the site through display advertising. Advertising has no influence on what we publish, and we do not accept payment for coverage, links or favourable mentions. We are not affiliated with HMRC or any government body.
Corrections
If you believe something on this site is wrong, email hello@onlinesalarycalculator.co.uk with the page and the figure in question. We check every report, correct genuine errors promptly, and update the page's last updated date when we do.
Not financial advice
Everything here is general information about how UK pay and deductions work. It is not regulated financial, tax or legal advice, and it does not take account of your personal circumstances. For advice about your own situation, speak to a qualified accountant or an FCA-regulated financial adviser.
