About us
onlinesalarycalculator.co.uk is an independent UK site that turns official pay and tax data into tools you can actually use. It started as a single take-home pay calculator and has grown into a set of calculators and guides covering the whole question of what your salary really means — after tax, against another offer, against the salary you want, and against what other people in the UK earn.
Everything is free, works instantly in your browser, and needs no account. We never ask for your name or email, and your salary figures are never stored or sent anywhere.
What you can do here
Take-home pay calculator
What lands in your account each month after Income Tax, National Insurance, pension and student loan.
Salary comparison
Put two offers side by side and see the real monthly difference, not just the headline salary.
Salary goal calculator
Start from the take-home pay you want and work back to the gross salary you need to ask for.
Second job tax calculator
See combined take-home across two PAYE jobs, and how much of the second job you actually keep.
UK salary survey
Where your pay sits against the UK distribution, by region and age band, using ONS ASHE earnings data.
Alongside the tools, our guides explain the mechanics behind the numbers — tax bands, National Insurance, pension contributions, student loan plans, payslip deductions and what specific salaries look like in practice.
Where our data comes from
We do not invent figures or copy them from other calculators. Every rate, threshold and earnings statistic on this site is taken from primary UK sources and held in one shared calculation engine, so the tools and the articles can never disagree with each other.
- HMRC Income Tax rates and allowances — Personal allowance, bands and rates for 2026/27.
- HMRC National Insurance rates — Employee Class 1 thresholds and rates.
- Student loan repayment thresholds (GOV.UK) — Plan 1, 2, 4, 5 and Postgraduate thresholds.
- ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings — Full-time employee earnings distribution used in the salary survey.
Current figures are for the 2026/27 UK tax year (6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027), rest-of-UK rates for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The full rate table and the exact order of calculation is published on our methodology page.

How we work
- Free and open — no account, no paywall, no email capture.
- Privacy first — calculations run in your browser and no salary data is stored.
- Independent — we are not affiliated with HMRC, the ONS or any government body, and we do not accept payment for coverage, links or favourable mentions.
- Reviewed every tax year — rates are updated at the start of each UK tax year and after any Budget that changes them, and affected guides are refreshed at the same time.
- Named authors — articles show who wrote them and when they were last updated. See our editorial policy for how content is produced and corrected.
Disclaimer
Results are estimates for guidance only and are not financial, tax or legal advice. Individual circumstances — tax codes, benefits in kind, salary sacrifice arrangements, Scottish rates — can change your actual pay. For advice about your own situation, speak to a qualified accountant or an FCA-regulated financial adviser.
